Christopher J. Newman, BA(Hons), PhD, is Professor of Space Law and Policy at Northumbria University, Newcastle. A leading expert in the legal and ethical frameworks of space governance, he regularly lectures in the UK and internationally and has published widely on space law.

He holds a History degree from the University of Sussex and began his career in the Metropolitan Police before transitioning to law, completing his CPE and LPC at Northumbria University. After legal practice, he earned a PhD in Cross-Comparative Public Order Law and became Reader in Law at the University of Sunderland.

Christopher is a member of the International Institute of Space Law, has judged the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot, spoken at the UK Space Conference, and contributed to the British Interplanetary Society’s celebration of the Outer Space Treaty. He has consulted for commercial law firms, led a Knowledge Transfer Partnership, and actively collaborates across disciplines, working with the military, ethicists, scientists, and technologists.
